Practice Thinking Positive Thoughts
“There is nothing either good or bad, but thinking makes it so
— William Shakespeare, Hamlet
By now, the benefits of positive thinking are well established. Sages, psychologists, neuroscientists, researchers, and doctors have been espousing the benefits of positive thinking for hundreds of years.
Positive thinking helps us to be healthier, more productive and ultimately happier. Yet, for most of us, it is hard to practice optimism regularly.
“Relieving the states that make life miserable… has made building the states that make life worth living less of a priority. The time has finally arrived for a science that seeks to understand positive emotion, build strength and virtue, and provide guideposts for finding what Aristotle called the ‘good life.’
— Dr. Martin Seligman
Guide Your Energy
According to quantum physics, your thoughts have a frequency and a corresponding unique vibration that attracts similar frequencies into your life. So negative thinking attracts negative energy; positive thinking attracts positive energy.
Buddha, Aristotle and many others have suggested the same; how you think creates the energy that ultimately manifests your realities. If we go into a situation with a negative thought process, we are almost destined to have a negative outcome.
This also applies to group thinking or collective consciousness. When a collection of people together guide their mental energy for a positive outcome, the likelihood of their success is usually a lot higher than otherwise. Their collective energy attracts positivity or negativity.
Cherish Yourself As You Are
“Cherry, plum, peach and damson blossoms all have their qualities, without changing their character — Nichiren Daishonin
Whilst we all have the same mental and emotional machinery, what we do with that and how we express it is unique in each case. You have a unique contribution to make to the world, and you must learn to cherish that. It is by living true to yourself that you can become truly happy. This is imperative.
A dervish traveller recounts:
I visited a certain sheikh who was a magnet for people of the most miscellaneous character.
‘How can you bear the company of such dreadful people! Their proximity to you has neither improved them nor were they attracted to you in the first place by your virtues, for by their confession, they seek only powers not possessed by other men.’
He said, and I shall never forget it:
‘Friend, if all the snakes in the world were to be about their business of killing, and none was to be diverted by vain hopes which prevented his evil from being exercised, there would not be a single human being left alive.’
